How our guides work
HomeFixCodes covers 384 error codes for washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators and air conditioners from 10 brands sold in the US, the UK and Europe. Every guide starts with the fix that takes two minutes and needs no tools, then moves to harder checks, and tells you plainly when a problem is a job for a technician.
We check each code against the manufacturer's own support material and established repair references, and we list those references on every page. We never ask you to bypass a safety switch, work on live wiring, or touch gas or refrigerant lines.
What an error code tells you
Modern appliances test themselves constantly. When a sensor reads something outside its normal range, such as water that doesn't drain in time or a door that doesn't lock, the control board stops the cycle and shows a short code. The code names the symptom the appliance detected, not always the broken part, which is why the same code can have several causes. Working through the checks in order is the fastest way to find yours.
